How are they propelled otherwise? It would dig into the ground as it pushed, and as this pistoning results in rolling the ball, and this would explain the 'toe' dig at the earth, a mark that changes angle as well as pushing at the earth. It’s a dig-push-roll move, and wouldn’t leave a simple vertical hole.

I also disagree with the assumption that setting up the fence automatically means the site was contaminated. There was a clear set of unusual marks on the ground, workers would merely need to surround it with a fence, not a complex task. They would have to be awefuly sloppy to track all over the very patch they were told to isolate.

And if the round marks were multiple sledgehammer marks, this is not contamination but deliberate and heavy tampering, you'd think someone would mention smashing up the site with hammers. It would be a ridiculous use of hammers, even for vandalism, and certainly has nothing to do with setting up an orderly structure like fence posts.

And, speaking as a guy from Hollywood, the idea that the world gets its UFO ideas from movies always strikes me as silly: people are not so unimaginative (or attentive to the movies) and the world is not so void of weirdness that it needs movies to imagine for them. I've designed SF spaceships, they serve drama, not practicality, and are not meant to be taken as realistic. The legs of the Dr. Who spaceship are stylish extravagances, impractical; no vehicle needs landing gear like that, and the Dr. Who designer knew it.

And, sorry, but the belladona bit just seems kind of desperate. If it's so easy to get a serious hallucination from the stuff then why aren't the locals constantly, conspicuously, famously tripping? If they were this case would not be the standout odd event that it is. If Belladonna is still all over the place, then so should UFOs, but nothing like this case has happened before or since in that area.

I appreciate your considerable efforts, but they don't convince.montethrasher@aol.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1327438777120904619.post-47029498619886782152011-10-25T19:52:53.534+01:002011-10-25T19:52:53.534+01:00Personally I find the Doctor Who connection as fli...Personally I find the Doctor Who connection as flimsy as Stuart Campbell's 'Venus through an atmospheric lens' theory.

The significant feature of the ship from Doctor Who is the tripod legs.

There have been plenty of ball shaped flanged spacecraft in science fiction and fantasy but not many with tripodal landing gear.

This is not a feature of Mr Taylor's account.

The rolling 'sea-mine' are pretty much unique to UFO accounts and not a common feature of television or cinema of the time.

It seems more plausible to me that either Mr Taylor experienced an inexplicable physical event or he experienced an hallucination caused by some kind of seizure.

One-off seizures are not impossible and it is also possible that he may have had undetected nocturnal seizures.

It's also possible that something unexplained and almost certainly now inexplicable was at that location and his description is a good an attempt to describe it as he could muster.

The world is still a mysterious place and with the area and the evidence so contaminated it's very unlikely we will ever get a conclusion of any meaningful use.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1327438777120904619.post-31851039548273724282011-09-11T19:21:05.135+01:002011-09-11T19:21:05.135+01:00I am writing a book all about Bob Taylor's cas...I am writing a book all about Bob Taylor's case and would like to include your explanation for the event amongst the other possibilities I will be writing about. I think it is valuable to have a plausible but more prosaic explanation of the events, even without always having direct and provable evidence, in order to make people think more critically of the case. I have no doubt that Mr. Taylor was truthful in all he said, but I would not be surprised if the explanation for the whole affair had a more earthly basis than speculations about aliens. Your analysis is a good attempt at a rational explanation which, more importantly, at least tries to give some rational cause for all the phenomena reported, which is more than can be said of most of the uncritical and unsupported speculations that have been published in the past.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1327438777120904619.post-33596303474243397202010-07-01T12:52:43.096+01:002010-07-01T12:52:43.096+01:00Thanks you, Eric. Yes, Steuart Campbell's Venus astronomical mirage theory never made sense to me, either.

Malcolm Robinson has since pointed out to me that when the final episode of Doctor Who aired, ITV (the only alternative tv channel to the BBC at that time), was not broadcasting due to industrial action. This makes it all the more credible that Taylor did indeed view the programme.David Slaterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00855572943743072270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1327438777120904619.post-5392985843753658882010-06-28T20:05:18.518+01:002010-06-28T20:05:18.518+01:00Belladona can probably produce, as other toxine (m...Belladona can probably produce, as other toxine (methanol), visual scotome (the black or translucent central sphere) with associated symptoms clearly describe by the witness.
No strange and non scientific optical 'explanation' with Vénus is necessary in your critical eyes.
Your explanation seems very good and the psychogenic-hallucination nature make no doubt for me when I have discovered this strangely case and his physiological effect.
Intoxication with cerebral disorder is better then epilepsy.
For the ground markings, some forest vehicle with double loading rampe make marks - - step by step ?
No links with the UFO and "sea mine" in all case for this pattern on the soil.
